One of the fastest-growing parts of Greater Hobart, with a network of centres that had not kept pace with the population around them.
Policy review, land use and economic analysis and community engagement established where residents were spending outside the municipality, where higher-density housing could sit close to centres, and how transport and community services lined up with them.
The analysis set out a centre hierarchy, defining which centres serve which catchments, and what each should be allowed to become.
The strategy resulted in zoning modifications and new centre designations across Brighton’s centre network, supported by tailored planning controls, land use recommendations, and actions for economic growth, placemaking and public-realm improvement.
